So did I mention I was bad at this diary thing?
Let's talk about Zombie Run.
It's an app for your iPhone that lets you experience running in a whole new way. For the last week I have forsaken my Nike Run app to be chased by zombies, and the result is mixed.
While the first episode was exciting - the helicopter I traveling on was shot down and crashed in a bad territory and I was the only survivor and thus had to make a mad dash for the safety of Abel Township - the radio messages alerting me to the pickup of items was a bit garbled. Other than that the app seemed to work out just fin and I ended my own workout with a huge grin. Who knew 5Ks could be so much fun?
The problem was the next update which left the app a little more glitchy than before. A fix to the update come out soon after but the glitches still remain. So now I'm wondering if they are worth it. It's irritating for the radio voice to simply not speak, leaving your volume turned down for the rest of the song. It's annoying when the song ends and nothing happens - the app still works but the character talking to you is silent.
Still, it's a lot more fun than listening to my old playlist so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully the glitches will be worked out soon because I think I'm already addicted.
In other news, I've discovered a love for running really late at night. As it turns out, I'm better at midnight than at 6am... or I should say it's easier to go after rehearsal than to get up before class.
My schedule is hell right now. The glories of being on stage means four hours of rehearsal every night, six nights a week. Add in 3 graduate classes, costuming and box office hours, and a Cinema course where I am the TA and that makes for a rather packed schedule. I'm usually in comfy clothes already for rehearsal so I just zip over to the gym for a 5K.
Next step is getting a Calorie Counter. 20 lbs or bust!

Let's Do This
Staying fit while in college is a bit of a challenge, especially in grad school. You spend a lot of time sitting: sitting at the computer, sitting in class, sitting in the library, sitting, sitting, sitting.
After going back for a PhD, for the first time, I gained the freshman 15 (I went to school on a hill - go Hilltoppers! - so it was impossible when I was an actual freshman). I gained weight my first year of grad school as well, and learned that the only way to balance this out, was to schedule in time for the gym. It's a bit more difficult with a busier schedule but I'm determined to do it again. Lose the weight, that is - I enjoyed a lot of food over Christmas break.
This is my blog. I don't blog, really, I'm horrible at keeping a diary of any kind, including a planner. But I'm going to try and keep track of everything. While that doesn't make for much of an interesting read, I'm going to try and post new things I've learned about health and exercise.
Let's do this.
